II just finished reading Endangered by Eliot Schrefer. It is one of the SSYRA books for 2014-2015. My first instinct was that it was just a book about another animal lover. Nothing wrong with that of course, but I was not expecting to actually learn all that much from it or feel emotions. It takes place in Congo in Africa and is the tale of a girl that finds herself coming to the rescue of a baby bonobo. What's that you ask? Well, you will have to either read the book or do a little research to find out for yourself. The bond between Sophie and the bonobo really touched my soul. I also liked learning more about the Hutus and Tutsis. Although it is a fictional story, Eliot uses factual information about the bonobos and the battle in the Congo area between the Hutus and Tutsis. As I always say, much can be learned about the world by reading even if it is a piece of fiction! Let me know what you think of the book when you read it for yourself.
