The blindfold affected the family's perception because Orrec thought he really had his gift, but he didn't. His father was the one who was doing the magic all along. So Orrec never took off his blindfold because he thought he was going to harm everyone he looked at. He never was going to though. Everyone wanted to see his eyes, but he never allowed it. He took off his blindfold after everyone died because he didn't know he never had the power. Now he does.

1.In my words i think the book was a terrific book because of the well planed out details. With Orrec story of having no control over his "gift". Orrec thinks he has no other choice from getting convinced that he should be blind folded by his father thinking it will be the best thing for him he does so. Orrec lives most of his life under a blind fold but is a little courageous and read at night time. The best thing about the book in my opinion was when Orrec found out that he had no gift and his father was lying to him the whole time witch was shocking. 4. Orrecs blindfold turns the whole story the other way around. The first reason for my belife is he has no power after all. No one knows of this so everyone is affraid .

At first the book was hard to get into but as the book went on it got better. Also if the gifts where once used for good they might of been able to worn animals of a hunt not call them to it. Also they might of been able to heal people instead of destroying or unmaking them. The up landers use there gifts to form allies if there is another domain that has a similar gift that might combine domains. Also if there gift is stronger that can destroy the domain that they are trying to dominate.

I think that they added Emmon to have someone to retell the story to. Remember - Orrec really gets into story-telling in the book and it becomes his new "Gift" at the end of the story. Story-telling is very important because of his mother also. Would it change the affect of story-telling if Orrec wasn't retelling the story to someone else?

The uplanders use their gifts to form alliances and dominate others by people being afraid of them. Canoc had many alliances because people were either afraid of him or Canoc and the other had strong mutual respect for each other and can benefit from one another. However, some people respect Canoc out of fear of him unmaking them.

When Orrec wore his blindfold it affected the uplanders perception because they thought that Orrec and his family weren't safe people to be around. Even though Orrec didn't have the power he doesn't know that his father is doing it for him. I wish that the uplanders would understand and not judge Orrec and his family because they think they bring danger into other people lives. My opinions on the book is that it was bad of Orrec's father to do what he has done because all Orrec's life he thought he had a gift. Other than that it was a really good book it was sad at times but also very interesting.

My opinion on the book "Gifts", is that it is an excellent read, unless you're a younger reader or someone who isn't quite used to pronouncing names such as Ogge or Gry. The book starts out extremely slow in my opinion, but if you have the motive to continue reading, it is sure to impress a variety of readers. My reasoning for stating that "Gifts" isn't quite meant for younger readers is because at some points in the book it can reach an extremely dark state and might result in to much for the younger readers out there. Overall I believe it is a wonderful read with a combination of fantasy and realism that many readers would be interested in.

My opinion on the book is that I thought it was a great book in the first few chapters it was pretty slow and really confusing but it got deeper and better towards the end. The Uplanders form alliances with people with gifts who can work with theirs like for example the Barre Gift (Gry's gift of calling) and the Caspro gift of undoing ( The gift Orrec thought he had) would be able to work together. Orrec grew up in a house where story-telling was there way of bonding, it was the main reason he and he mom were very close especially when he was wearing his blind fold and she was deathly ill, story-telling influenced him to reflect and be creative and do what he wanted to do not what everyone else wanted him to do.

Orrecs blindfold affected other Uplanders perception of him and his family by having them believe the he was too powerful and couldnt control himself or his gift. There perception on his family is that they cannot contain his gift and control it. It makes his family looked down upon and as though they are weaker than everyone else.

This was definetly a one of a kind book, and my opinion on it was that is was very depressing and thrilling at moments. And the idea that orrec was blindfolded had made all the up uplanders feel a lot safer knowing orrec can't "accidentally kill" them. And to think what it would be like if the gifts were "reversed" and only used to heal and help out. It would make life in the lands easier knowing no one is going to be trying to raid you. Even though Orrecs mom and dad dies he still is able to come up with a win as he marries Gry. This is truly good book and I would recommend it to others. Sadly Orrec is blindfolded and could not see even though he was living a lie that he had the gift without him even knowing. It is sad really, but ends up living a good life at the end.

I agree it was a great book, good topic and everything, but it was very confusing at times especially in the beginning.

1) My opinion of the book was that it was good yet bad equally. It was confusing, to me, because it was jumping around with its detail.

1: in my opinion this book did not spark my interest until the twist came in where it said that canoc was the one unmaking stuff and making orrec believe that he was a monster and that he couldn't control his power. It made me feel surprised and kinda upset about how the twist was good but the whole rest of the book was dull and boring,

1. My opinion on the book is that it was very boring at the beginning and kinda escalated into an interesting twist. Even though we didn't read the whole thing and just got chapter summaries I think we all understand the main idea pretty well. This book isn't something I would pick up and read my self but was a very unusual and creative book.

1.) My opinion of "Gifts" is that in the first quarter of the book it was very confusing because they introduced a lot of characters at one time but, in the other three quarters of the book it was easier to understand and a little bit more interesting. I particularly did not like this book because it is not the type of book I usually read.

I agree with you Cara because I think each partners reading a chapter & doing a one sent. summary made me understand the book better, & certainly took a lot less time than reading it by myself because, when it came down to it, we all wrote down the important facts & what mainly needed to be known every half a page.

1. My opinion on the book is that it was overall an okay book. The beginning was confusing to me though, and I believe it got better toward the end. The beginning was strange and I had a hard time processing everything all at once. But toward the end of the book, it got better and it started to make sense.

This is a really creative book and my opinion is that it is confusing at first but then once you get into it and a bit interested, you start to get the whole idea of the story and the bit of drama in it. Maybe a bit sad due to people dying. To me, the book looks like it is in the past. Orrecs blindfold affects the Uplanders perceptions on him and his family by having them to think his gift is wild and uncontrollable. Bringing fear upon their family and some respect.

I agree with you about the creativeness of the book but I feel like since the book was confusing (which you did mention), it wasn't that it wasn't that sad. It was sad when Orrec's mother died but wasn't as sad as it could've been if the book made more sense.

Orrecs blindfold affects the other up landers perception of him and his family by giving them respect. Orrecs father lied about orrec having powers because he wanted respect for his family. The up landers where afraid because Orrecs " gift " was the power of undoing. My opinion on the book was that I didn't particularly like it. My reason was because it was hard to understand what the point of the book was.

I think this book was okay. It was really good and had a good plot and I loved the ending yet it was confusing. There were so many names that you got confused like that one part where orrec was in a fight with gry and swung his staff at him and hit star instead. I was like wait who's star and then I noticed it was a horse but it still was confusing a bit. If all gifts where turned backwards and where used for good that would be good beacause then nobody would be scared of anyone. Then there people would be safe as well because if someone was sick they could be healed and stuff.

1) My opinion of "Gifts" is that it was very confusing in the first eight chapters because there is a lot of settings and characters being introduced. Another reason I didn't enjoy the book for a second reason because I'm not into all the wizard and unrealistic books. A third reason is because it was everywhere by that I mean it was not organized very well. I thought that there was a lot of off topic ideas which made it confusing going along with my first idea.

My opinion on this is that it was very confusing in the beginning, but like towards the middle it started to make sense. So it needs to be fixed a little bit.Orrecs blindfold affects the other uplandders perceptions of him and his family because orrec thought he had a gift all along but the whole time his father was doing the gift.To make orrec think he has the gift and for the people thinks he has the gift. But in reality Orrecs father is the one with the powerful gift. But orrec couldn't tell because of his blindfold.

I didn't like "Gifts" because it was confusing at the beginning because it had a lot of characters introduced. Another reason it was confusing is that since it was in a fantasy world, the way it was worded was complicated. It also was just Orrec telling stories to his friends, which made everything complicated. Orrec's blindfold affected other Uplanders' perception of him by them being a scared of him and him being very powerful. They were scared because they thought he had an uncontrollable gift.

My opinion on the book "Gifts" is that, in the beginning, it was very tedious & confusing because there was so many characters being introduced & different topics being discussed. However towards the middle of the book, things got interesting because the author explained a little more about the gifts & who everyone is. All in all though, I personally felt the book was pretty good because it had a good flow & interesting plot.

This is true Aubrey because Ogge Drum wanted Orrec's dad to bring him to Drummant to prove his power was as powerful as the father put it out to be. If this was not so, Ogge Drum wouldn't have been as afraid of Orrec's family & would've treated them as manure.

My opinions about the book are, it wasnt very well said, but the backround of the story was very good. Also very sad. I think the uplanders could be afraid or firghtened because orrec and his family went to drummant. Story telling Orrecs life helps make it easier for people to understand even though it sounds like a fairytale.

My opinion in the book was that I thought it was a good book even though the book was really slow and confusing at some points the story got deeper and putting some unexpecting things in the story like how Orrec never had the gift and the father was doing the killing and not Orrec. The uplanders use their gift to form an alliance because they had power and had the gift.

My opinions about this book are that it is a very good book and it's full of cool powers and gifts. Also the uplanders are very afraid or scared of Orrec because they know how much power he has but he knows at the end he doesn't have the gift of the undoing. Also when Orrec's mom was about to die she wanted him to show her his eyes for her because she loved his eyes and love looking at them. But when Orrec's mom first heard that they were going to blindfold Orrec she wasn't the happiest camper, she hatted having to think of covering her child's eyes for a silly gift.

My opinion of the book "Gifts" is that it was very confusing. At the beginning it was very confusing and a did not like it at the beginning. But when I got to chapters 9-18 it started to make more sense. You can start knowing where they are and who is who. At the beginning it was hard to understand. Orrec being blindfolded affects the up landers and his family because people were afraid of him because they thought the gift Orrec had was powerful. But his family only wanted him to have respect. But when Orrec finds out that he has no gift he says to the raiders not to be afraid of him. Orrec did not know why he had no gift but he finds out who it was. His dad Canoc was the one using the gift making Orrec think he had an uncontrollable gift.

In the beginning of the book, I thought it was really boring but in the middle and end I started to understand the book and really enjoyed it. The uplanders use there gifts to to from alliances and dominate others by making people sick like Ogge did to Melle. Storytelling influences Orrecs life by remembering his mother and the things she wrote for him.

Not letting him have the power kinda lets me go as a reader because I would think it would be cool for his farther to be able to Pass on a powerful gift so Orrec can protect his land , or domain.
