The messenger is really interesting so far and I'm really curious as to what his special ability is. Matt I think will end up meeting Jonas some how and I think that he's able to talk to animals. It's really awesome that Kira's dad is taking over the father figure role for Matt and he is being raised in a better society. I predict that at the end of the book Matt will go back to Kira to stop a fight of some sort.

Third book of the series! This book better tell us what caused all of the communities to become separated. I remember "Gathering Blue" talking about some sort of disaster, what could that disaster possibly be? Could this disaster be the cause of why the communities are split apart from each other? I REALLY want these questions to be answered because they're driving me nuts!

In the book the Messenger I th no Matty name will be the messenger. I wonder why all these communities are so differen. The first community was in black and white. The second community was very picky about people who were useful and who wasn't. This community likes poeple who a are different like Seer(he uses more of his other senses because his eyes don't work.

Going pretty good so far. Has he forgotten about Kara or something because I thought he liked her. He made that little comment about a boy in the village about to turn old enough for a two or three syllable name like her. I mean, because it was at the end of the book, I assumed he was talking about himself. I'm just curious that's all.

See- but that is the point. Maybe the reason this new village/ community is so accepting is because they have the abilities of magic. Also, we never said ANY of these books were realistic fiction. I mean isn't it somewhat magical that memories can be transferred through hands into a back let alone all be stored-thousands of years- by one human? Or did we dub that to tech.? Maybe the Forest is natural selection ;)

This book is so far really good! Way better than Gathering Blue to me anyways. I'm very interested in his special ability and how Matt came to know about that. Like did he accidently hear the animals communicating? I'm very confused. I like that it jumped to when he's a teen, it makes it more relatable and more interesting. Also I noticed every community has a way of classifying or ranking their citizens although this broken village seems to be much more laid back then the other two. Still a rank or classification is needed and it makes me wonder do we unspoken ly have that in our communities?

I really enjoy Messenger so far. Although as usual I have more questions to ask. Such as, "Why is forest angered at some of the villagers?" Also why was Matty so fascinated by the frog and what was different about that frog that made it bad? I can't wait to find out more and hear what happens next.

This book is very confusing. It's like the forest is alive and hurting people for going into it. Why would you build a "village of healing" or whatever in a place you can't leave. And why is Matty able to travel through it without getting hurt. And what the heck does him talking to a frog confirm?!?!?! This book is really weird.

"Messenger" is a far more interesting story than "Gathering Blue", but seems to have a slower pace. Being in the same village but only six years in the future allows us to know the village's culture, but still have a few surprises.

Messenger is a lot more interesting than Gathering Blue. Theres more things going on and the plot is a lot easier to get into even in the beginning. The way Matty was interacting with the animals I think hes able to communicate with them.

Jonas is the leader! Great news too. I'm curious as to how the giver knew where he went and sent the books to him. I agree with Jonas that it was away of saying everything is alright and he's sorry. So much has been interesting Matty and I think he will question Jonas's life a lot more and maybe become his intern or right hand man. Possibly Jonas sees that Matty has a special quality whatever that may be.

I wasn't expecting Jona to be the leader of this village. What happened there? How had the people not known about there history, or were there other secrets their vilige leaders were keeping away from them? That makes me wonder what kind of conflicts are going to occur in this book since there are not secrets among the people. They don't have a corrupt government and no leaders, or do they. Wouldn't that be a shocker if Jona turned out to be the villain? Oh and what about Gabe? They said something about Jona living alone. Why does Gabe not live with him? I have a feeling so one is doing something to the water and fish, just going out on a limb here. How many books are there by the way?💗

To start my post off, OMGGGGGGG it's JONASSSSSS and GABEEEEEE!!!!! So it has been revealed that leader is Jonas. Also, a man named Gatherer has been "entangled," or taken by forrest. I predict that the Giver Community will come to Matty's village and spread their corrupt ways. This book is not simmilar to any others that I've read, it's quite intriguing.

OMG GABE AND JONAS SURVIVED!!! I'm freaking out over here, the suspense was killing me and I really wanted to know if they survived. The book talks about how the forest entangles anyone that tries to leave the village. Scary thought there, especially the mental picture that the book described for us. I just wonder what's going to happen next.

This week in "Gathering Blue" we learned that Jonas and Gabe survived and Jonas is the leader of Mattie's community. We also learned that Mattie has some sort of secret power although we still haven't learned whether or not he legitimately has a power or if he simply has a static charge.

With Jonas as the leader of the community and Branchie dead, along with the chance of Matty having the same health restorative powers as a defibrillator, "Messenger" has just been 35 pages of plot twists. Kira has yet to appear and Gabe is still alive, the first community has changed and Matty has shown his first bout of anger.

So this week we found out Jonas is the leader! That was shocking news. We also found out that Branch died so that was sad to find out. But anyway more questions this week. Such as "why did the village let Jonas who was 12 at the time become the leader of the village?" Then in the story Matty found out he has these special powers when it comes to animals. This led me to question, "what powers does Matty possess? And how did he get these powers!?!" I hope these questions are answered soon since the book is pretty revealing already.

Jonas is the leader of the village. I think being strong and smart enough to reach the village they decided to make him the leader. Branch died at some point and Matty wants a new dog from the mentors daughter. When seeing the dogs Matty realizes he might have powers, but what kind? And how did he get them? I wonder if there are more people with powers in the village or...

The messenger is really good. I agree with Chris's opinion on how mentor Is trading for his health or for his birth mark to go away. I don't think trademark is good it is making good people do bad things, or things they would not normally do.

This week we learned that slowly Mentor is receiving new parts of himself somehow. He no longer has his birthmark, hunched back, and really looks younger. I wonder how this happens and the whole trademark scenario works. Is the trade master gifted with powers as well and uses them for let's say "evil"? Maybe he can heal people and it replaces their "defects"... While reading I constantly thought that the words gaming machine and new jacket and others were just code words for other things like new body parts but those people do get gaming machines so I don't know. This whole book is confusing and the use of powers is going to become very apparent I think coming up soon. Also- we all forgot about Gabe! How is he? Where is he? Does Leader still care for him? Does he know about his past with leader I mean he was an infant/toddler... Ugh too many questions..

I love Messenger so far! I am reall surprised it is interesting already since Gathering Blue wasn't really. I knew somehow that Matty would meet Jonas. I am curious as to what Gabrielle's role is in the community. Marty's power reminds me of the Elves from Lord of the Rings, since they can heal people from the touch of their hands but it drains them. I think that the Tradesman is taking people's soul and/or important things for them. Mentor has obviously both physically and mentally changed. I wonder if Jonas is going to try and remove people's memories because of the trademart. I also think that Matty will be tricked into trading his powers. The seer is very observant and I think he wants more than anything to know what is happening and Tradesmart.

Messenger just keeps getting more and more fascinating. So we finally understand what goes on at the trade shows but like Seer mentioned, why has it changed? Since Mentor's birthmark has disappeared and the lady's sense of compassion has also vanished, this had led me to ask if you have to now trade personal traits as payment for your trade? I also question what Trade Maker has written down in his book. Hopefully we will find out soon. There is some freaky (insert profane word here or use the word "stuff") going on, fading birthmarks, strange behavior after making trades, Mentor wanting to close off Village (Evil Clones!!), and all of the forementioned plot twists, *cough* 12 year old leader *cough*. I am admittedly weary of what "Son" has in store for us. Also, calling a blind man "Seer"?, no excuses Ms. Lowry, no excuses.

So, about that trading market huh. Sounds interesting. I wonder why the leader doesn't go to it if he thinks there is something suspicious going on with it. He is the leader after all. I think he has that right to say something when he sees the villagers doing wrong or keeping secrets. I'm just saying. You know, that book that the trade master writes their trades in is probably some what magical. Kind of like whatever he writes in it happens coincidencely. Maybe they trade away personality traits for what they want. Weird💗

This week in "Messenger" Mattie's "power" was confirmed and Mattie also visited the Trade Mart where he and Seer think something wrong is happening. At the Trade Mart a normally nice person made fun of her husbands deformality. Even though it is a Trade Mart no one seemed to bring or receive anything. (I think that Trade Mart is like a cult)

Weeee, it's time for another blog post. Sarcasm aside, I am really enjoying this book. I personally believe that this new girl to village is the main character from the fourth book,Clair. However I can not be sure. My second guess is that the new girl is that girl the Jonas was crushing on in the first book. Messenger is so much better than Gathering Blue. Mentor traded his deepest self to get rid of his imperfections. In the book the messenger the seer told Matt to go to find Kira about how she only has 3 weeks to get to the village before it closes. I wonder if Matt will get to Kira in time and to other places to tell people about the village closing? leader told Matt that it would be very dangerous going through the forest. Omgggggggggggggg I want to know what is up with forest and if it has anything to do with the souls people are trading. I'm telling you it's like Dead Boys. Soul stealing trees that kill people. I kinda figured that Kira had a special power but I don't what it is exactly. I wonder why Matty wouldn't tell Seer about the trees changing on tapestry? They still haven't said what Gabrielle's job is in Village so I wonder if the tradesman is Gabrielle and because he has gotten some of Jonas's memories and some inkling of a chance he could have got despair and war and now he's turning evilllllllll. I wonder how Jonas knew that Matty had powers. Obviously he knows a lot about what's going on in Village but how come Jonas doesn't stop trademart especially since he has the memories of total economic destruction and it just imploding on itself I mean seriously. I kinda think that once Matty fetches Kira that forest will attack Matty in a sense and keep him there so he knows the secret of Trademart.

Alsooooo stoopid thing sent before I could finish. I guess that Ramone's mother traded Ramone's and his sister's lives away for the gaming machine but she didn't’t really think it would work and now she is trying to get them better by getting the medicine and coats and stuff like that. I think that.... Well obviously tradesman has powers and he is obviously using it for evil maybe Jonas will die because of the Tradesman and once Matty finds out about Tradesmart in the forest then he will attack Tradesman.

Is nobody realizing that Leader already knew of the power Matty had?I mean does his power let him sense other peoples power? Matty is on foot to bring Kira back from her village. Also, HE FINALLY GOT HIS KISS LIKE AWWWW!!!! Leader sensed the forest thickening and the tapestry they have from Kira did as well although they did not alert Seer. I think this is wrong, he should have known about that. On the other hand, Seer would not have let him go even if it was for his own daughter. Leader also has something up his sleeve saying Kira is lovely and all that jazz. Does he want Matty to save his power to heal Kira or maybe Leader senses that Kira is needed in their own village. He might also think/know that Matty will get hurt possibly. This is why he is asking Matty to save his power. I wish he'd name the kid already for goodness sakes.

This week was eventful. Kira refused to have her leg fixed and in a way I understand why. It's all she has ever known and it makes her who she is. When they first came to the forest it was semi-okay to pass through but now the Forest is giving multiple 'warning signs' to Matty and Kira. After the twigs cutting the soles of her feet, the vine path, and the acidic sap on Matty'sarms-I don't think they will be able to go through- . Matty refuses to let Kira know anything about the smell, or what all of these small, painful things mean yet. I really believe he will have to tell her eventually or she will figure it out with her gift. Speaking of, why won't Matty use his on his arms or on Kira's feet? They are not really big wounds and I don't think he would need that much energy for them. Maybe one of them will get seriously hurt or Kira may even get critically hurt and he'll really have to 'spend his gift'. We won't know until Monday and that is not okay! GRRR.

This week in "Messenger" Mattie was sent to get Kira and post warnings that village was closed but when he entered forest, forest did not welcome him and when he got to Kira he offered to fix her leg but she denied and said it was part of who she was and while trying to get back to Mattie's village Kira and Mattie are being warned and attacked by forest and while Kira doesn't know what is going on Mattie is silently panicking and hoping they can make it back

This week in messenger.... Well i don't really have any words for it. I was not really surprised that Kira wouldn't let Matty heal her leg. I think Kira's powers really cool. I know that obviously forest was giving Kira a warning but I'm thinking that Forest was also giving Matty a warning when he got burned by the sap. I wonder if there is a way to connect the powers together and maybe Matty, Kira, and Leader will have to use their powers to stop trademart and put everything back the way it was.

I'm really wondering if they are going to make it back. And if they are, will Kira be the only one that gets hurt or will Forest hurt Matty too? Hmm, questions

This book just keeps getting more and more eventful as we start to reach the end. This week when Kira mentioned the sticks and roots reaching out to poke her, it made me wonder if the roots target Kira's family since it also did that to Seer. Also Matty and Kira are starting to reach the center of Forest. They mentioned the smell of decay as they get closer to the center. This lead me to ask what is in the middle of Forest that reeks of decay?

Kira did not agree to getting her leg fixed. They entered Forest and it kept giving them warnings which Kira didn't realize, and Matty ignored. What is Forest warning them about? I wonder if its doing it as a part of getting the entrance to Village shut. Its likely that one of them is going to end up getting terribly injured as they get closer to village. Which will cause Matty to use more of his power. Does the power thing work like a free trial? Like you can only use it so much before it vanishes?

I can not believe this ending. It was just a horrible ending. I can't believe he died for everyone else. For such a big build up, it was a boring ending. I think healer is a good name for him.

I do agree with the healer thing but then they should've called the book Healer rather than Messenger.

I think the ending would have seemed a little different if we wouldn't have stopped when we did. We kind of lost the momentum. But I do agree -- the ending was still strange.

ARGHHHHH STOOPID CLIFFHANGERS!!!! I kinda expected someone to die just not Matty. I was very sad when Frolic died. I want to know who the Tradesman really was, I mean did forest control Tradesman or did Tradesman control forest? What made the people change was it their souls or personalities? What was even happening to forest in the first place I mean I know it was turning evil but what exactly was wrong with it? I didn't really expect for Matty to basically hug the ground and give up his life to the forest I expected him to go out with a bang ya know. I am kinda disappointed with the ending and it left a lot of my questions unanswered.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *continues for 2 hours* OOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Why did Mattie have to die?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? It's bad when an innocent character dies, but it's worse if the main character dies! Also, the next book seems a little, strange...

This week, we've read the final chapters of Messenger, the third book in the Giver series. To sum up what's happened, Mattie and Kira are going through forest to get to Village; however, forest starts attacking them, so leader must go in after them. In a final attempt to save themselves, Mattie sacrifices himself to heal forest and all that is in it, killing himself in the process. =(

This week we finished the final chapters of the messenger and Kira, Matty, and Leader are all getting tied up in forest. It comes to a final end where Kira and leader are communicating though their minds and Kira tells Matty to use his power. Using all the force he has Matty heals Kira, leader, and his dog and forest but he dies.

I can't believe Matty died. Why would they do that, it's just not fair because he could have just healed forest to begin with. It wasn't wise of Leader to tell him to use his gift at such a state. Just a little reminder of how missed up Giver was. I totally think Clair is Jones's mother maybe.

I figured that Matty would die but to me that wasn't a very good ending. It was interesting but I wasn't a big fan of it. I'm looking forward to the next book.

I am very angered by how this ended and the title. In my opinion he never was a true messenger, I agree with Blake it should be named Healer. Oh well, authors choice. It makes logical sense though because Matty would be the kind heart to give his life away in order it save and preserve others. We should have seen it coming.

So after finishing the book I'm a little disappointed. I didn't expect Matty to die especially before getting his true name. I also felt as though it left us on a cliff hanger like every other book in the series. What happens now to village? Will everything just magically go back to normal? Will we ever hear about the characters such as Jonas, Seer, Kira and Gabe again? I honestly hope we do and that all the cliff hangers will be resolved.

I thought the book was going to end happily. I still don't get how forest is this supernatural being that needed to be healed in order for the village to go back to normal. In all honesty, I didn't really care who died as long as the dog lived. Matty was named Healer, instead of messenger, after he died. Which it sort of helped leave it on a happier/peaceful place???

First off, I have no answers to "Messenger", it has only been a protein strand of answerless questions. Not even a Valedictorian at Havard for the class of 2057 could answer these questions. Was it really Claire in Messenger? Who/what is Trade Master? Is Forest sentient of controlled? And is Matty really dead?

I didn't read ahead, but as I flipped through pages trying to figure out how much to cover each week to make sure we finished the book this year, I did see the word "tradesman". SO -- I'm thinking we will get some answers in this book!! If not, I will allow you all to write pointedly heated letters to Ms. Lowry. :-)

I hate this series so much. Every single book ends in a CLIFFHANGER!!!!! Does Matty actually die? Who is the Trademaster? What happens to the town? Just so many unanswered questions!!!! Comments are closed.
